Christmas and Easter are the most important festivals of Christians. Christmas is celebrated as the day Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, and Easter is the day celebrated for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

To commemorate these two important days, many Christians follow the two long Fasting periods. Nativity Fast is a 40-day fast before Christmas, and Great Lent is a 40-day fast before Holy Week.

Celebrating Christmas:

Christmas is celebrated on December 25th of every year, and people around the world used to give gifts to each other. These are celebrated as grand events in many countries for the birth of Jesus. Christmas has also become an event of music, decorations as well as lights.

People also love to have a big Christmas dinner together. Most Churches are open during Christmas morning, and there’s a morning Liturgy. Orthodox Christians give gifts at Christmas but after all the fasting. Some of them even look forward to having some bacon and eggs or cheese pizza!

Celebrating Easter:

Easter commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus. It is probably something that you’d celebrate more than a death! The date of Easter will be based on a calculation known as computes or ‘computation’ as it is a moveable feast.

Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after Paschal full moon. It is the first full moon on or after March 21st. People used to keep the Easter eggs around the home for decoration. There will not be any lights, trees, or decorations. Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ, not his death. They remember and commemorate his death.

The Season:

Christmas falls in the winter season, and most of the countries have cold climatic conditions. It is one of the main reasons that many organizations and educational institutions announce official holidays during these months. So it lets people have more time to celebrate during the special occasion.
